Your OET exam booking

Sometimes situations change.

So, you have booked your OET exam but you need to cancel or postpone it. Can you? How do you do this and what are the terms? What about changing to a different venue to take the test?

Here, we give you some information to help you with this.

1. CANCELLING YOUR OET EXAM BOOKING

First of all, yes, you CAN cancel your OET exam booking. You just need to be aware that there are certain costs involved.

Cancelling (or withdrawing) from the OET exam can be done online via your myOET account. When you booked your OET, you would have created a myOET account. Use the same account to withdraw from the selected OET exam date. Make sure you choose the correct exam date if you have booked a few dates.

The booking fee of AUD $587 (which you paid when you booked the test) is not refundable. You will be charged certain fees for withdrawing from the test, depending on when you withdraw.

If you withdraw before the OET closing date of the test administration
The OET withdrawal fee is AUD $120. This will be deducted from your refund.

If you withdraw any time after the closing date of the test administration but also ONE WEEK before the actual test (before midnight on the Sunday before test week)
The withdrawal fee is AUD $200. This will be deducted from your refund.

If you withdraw less than ONE WEEK before the actual test (AFTER the Sunday prior to test week)
No refunds will be given

OUR ADVICE

  • Please note that a withdrawal is not reversible, so please be very sure that you are going to withdraw.
  • Alternatively, you may want to defer your test instead (unless, of course, you do not need to sit for the test at all anymore).

2. DEFERRING YOUR OET EXAM BOOKING

In other words – Can I change OET date? Yes, instead of cancelling your OET exam, you might want to defer (or postpone) it to a later date. This is also done online via your myOET account.

So, the next logical question is – How much does it cost to defer the OET exam? The deferral fee is either A$120 or A$200. The terms are almost similar, with the exception that you can choose to defer your exam even up to the last minute – on exam day itself (although we strongly advise you not to do this). Also, an administration fee will be charged for the deferral.

If you defer before the closing date of the test administration
The deferral fee is AUD $120, plus the administration fee

If you defer any time after the closing date of the test administration up to one day before the test
The deferral fee is AUD $200, plus the administration fee.

If you defer on the test day itself
The deferral fee is AUD $200, plus the administration fee BUT you MUST submit your application on TEST DAY and you must NOT have gone through the registration process at the test venue.

3. CHANGING YOUR TEST VENUE

If you decide to change your test venue, you have to do this BEFORE the closing date for the test administration. There will be a charge of AUD $120 for that. This is also done online via your myOET account.

You are NOT allowed to change your test venue AFTER the closing date for the test administration. If you still want to change your test venue, you can DEFER your test to another date and select a new test venue in that deferral (see ‘Deferring your OET exam booking’ above).

4. BEING ABSENT ON TEST DAY

If you are absent on test day, you are still able to defer your test (see ‘Deferring your OET exam booking’ above). The conditions apply and you must defer your test on the exam day and pay the necessary fees. No deferrals are allowed after test day.

**

As you can see, there are costs involved if you wish to cancel your test, defer your test or change the test venue. Our advice is to be very sure that you are able to sit for the test on a particular date at a particular test venue before you make a booking. However, if it is absolutely unavoidable, you know that you still have the option to make some changes to your booking, provided that you meet the deadlines.
