Gift ielts speaking part 1

Gift is a topic that often comes up in the IELTS speaking part 1. Below you will find a list of some example questions and answers that you could encounter during part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test.

Gift Speaking Part 1 – Set 1

  1. Did anyone give you any furniture as a gift? Why?
    Yes, we received a whole dining set furniture as a gift. My parents gave that set to me as a wedding present. Its table and chairs were made of good quality wood and had intricate patterns carved on them.

  1. What is the best gift you have ever received?
    When I was 18 and had just found out that I had been accepted at my university, my parents bought me a watch as a present to congratulate me. It is an expensive brand and it was a complete surprise, I didn’t see that coming. To me the gift represents how proud my parents are and the time of my life when I started to make my own way in life.
  2. Do you enjoy buying gifts for other people?
    I am quite a thoughtful person and enjoy thinking about the perfect gift for my family or friends. For example, last year I bought my sister a ticket to go to a concert for her birthday which was for a band she had been dying to see for ages.
  3. Have you ever made a gift for somebody?
    Yes, I am studying art so doing crafts is right up my street. Last year, I gave my parents a hand drawn picture of the Eiffel Tower that I had made. It took quite a few hours so I think making a gift shows that you really care.

  1. Have you ever given someone perfume as a gift?
    I have bought my mum a bottle of perfume for her birthday before. In fact, it is not a very original gift as she always wears the same fragrance so I was just replacing the old bottle really. It is difficult to buy a new fragrance for somebody else as everybody suits different scents.

  1. Do you buy perfume as a gift?
    I have bought perfume for friends and relatives before. It is a lovely present as it comes gift wrapped in a fancy box and looks really special. It can be difficult to buy perfume for someone else but if you go for something popular they are bound to like it.

  1. Have you ever gifted anyone perfume?
    I have only done it once for my mum, because I knew what her favourite brand was. However, I felt unwell in the perfume shop due to all the smells, and so I have not made such purchase again, since.

  1. Have you ever been gifted sunglasses?
    I have. When went on a trip with some friends, my parents gifted me a pair of sunglasses for it. It was a very unique pair of sunglasses that was custom-made for me. It was very sweet of them.

  1. Do you think sunglasses make a good gift?
    I think they could. I have friends who enjoy wearing sunglasses a lot, and I am sure they would be happy to add more to their collections.
