Home accommodation is a topic that often comes up in the IELTS speaking part 1. Below you will find a list of some example questions and answers that you could encounter during part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test.

  1. Where do you currently live?
    I currently live in Marseille, in France. It is a multicultural city that is located by the Mediterranean Sea. It is also the third largest city in France.
  2. What type of accommodation do you live in?
    I live in a flat. Unfortunately, the cost of buying a house is too steep for me to be able to afford one at this time.

  1. Where do you currently live?
    I live in a rented accommodation with some college friends, not far from our university. We don’t all study the same subject, but we get along very well. It also helps with the cost of living!
  2. What does your area look like?
    Our accommodation is at the heart of the city. It’s quite busy, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants around. The atmosphere is wonderful there, and it’s perfect for someone like me, who prefers to live in urban areas.
  3. Do any of your relatives live in your area?
    My sister works in one of the shops not too far from where I live. I see her once or twice a week.

    I live in a studio flat. I considered shared accommodation, but because my course is quite demanding, I felt it would be best for me to stay in a place where I can get plenty of peace and quiet to study properly.

    I live in an apartment. It is quite spacious and perfectly suitable for a single occupier such as myself. I have been living there for the past year and a half.

    I currently live in a rented flat. It is in the outskirts of Orlando, as the cost of living is more affordable for me there, and I live by myself.

    I have been living in that flat for nearly a year now. It’s quiet and very convenient for a single occupier such as myself. It is in a highly accessible part of town, with grocery stores, cafés and shops nearby.

  1. Where are you from?
    I come from Sydney, in Australia. Sydney is a metropolis and one of Australia’s largest cities. There is a world-famous Opera House, and people can cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
  2. Do you live in a house or in an apartment?
    I currently live in a shared accommodation with friends from my course. It is a large house where each of us has our own room, however we share the common living area, the kitchen and the restroom
  3. How long have you been living there?
    I have been living in that accommodation since the beginning of this year. I had to move out of the previous accommodation I was staying at due to some water piping issues. It was a blessing in disguise, though, as I now get to live with great friends!
  4. How do you feel about the area you live in?
    It’s a very accessible location. There are two convenience stores down the road and grocery stores within walking distance. We do need to use public transportation to get to certain places, including our university building, but it’s a very convenient area overall!

  1. Where do you currently live?
    I live in a shared accommodation with other Art students from my course. We each have our own rooms, but we share the living space, kitchen and bathrooms. Or accommodation is quite centrally-located which is very convenient.
  2. How long have you been living at that place?
    I have been living there since the beginning of my university course, so for about a year and a half now, but it feels like yesterday I just moved in. Time flies when you are a having fun!
  3. What makes you want to stay in that area?
    To be quite honest, the location is compelling. The accommodation is close to the grocery stores and to cafes and restaurants. The accommodation itself it very comfortable and spacious, which makes us want to stay.
  4. Is there anything you would like to change about the area you live in?
    I don’t think so, honestly. I am happy as a clam here. I am a social butterfly, and so the location is really ideal for socialising and befriending new people. I honestly love it!

    I am from Paris, in France. Paris is the capital city of France and it is widely-known by its nickname, the City of Love. It is famous for such landmarks as the Champs-Elysées et and the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur.
  2. What type of accommodation do you currently live in?
    I live in a flat at the moment. I am renting the property because purchasing a house would be way out of my budget. The flat is fairly small, but it has everything I need, including a kitchen and a bathroom.

    I am from Leicester, in England. Leicester has a rich art scene, and is famous for being the city where the skeleton of King Richard III was found underneath a parking lot!
  2. What type of accommodation do you live in?
    I am currently renting a room in a shared house with some friends from university. We all get along very well and it is very easy to get to the university buildings from where we are staying.

  1. Do you work?
    I do. I work as a wedding singer. My aim is to make the day feel as special as possible for the newly-wedded couple. Most people enjoy dancing at weddings, and I am happy to be able to contribute to the experience.
  2. What type of accommodation do you live in now?
    I currently live in a two-bedroom house. I live by myself so this is all the space I really need. The house is quite spacious and has a big kitchen, which is perfect for an avid cook such as myself.
