Aspiring and Graduates Nurses! Some Good News for YOU!

In today’s era, more than 200 nationalities form a diverse, multicultural expatriate community from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Asia, Africa, and Europe. They outnumber the UAE nationals and are gaining momentum in the provision of various services. One such diverse group is meeting the growing healthcare demands and contributing significantly to the provision of wider healthcare services. There was once a time when becoming a nurse in the UAE involved challenging, demanding, and rigorous steps; however, now Dubai regulations have made the path more accessible for aspiring and graduated nurses.

Many healthcare workers prefer working in the UAE due to high wages and economic stability. With the prior two-year work experience condition now relaxed, not only new nursing graduates but also seasoned professionals are likely to flock to Dubai. YES! That’s unbelievable but quite TRUE!

The prerequisite of two years of work experience for obtaining a nursing license in the UAE has been removed. In 2022, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) made a pivotal announcement for nurses from Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Assistant nurses with a diploma of more than 18 months of education are also eligible to apply for licensing. Nurses registered in the UAE must have graduated from a university and program accredited by the Ministry of Education.

Revised Requirements for Nurses to Work in Dubai

  1. Valid license/registrations from the USA, the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, South Africa, Singapore, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Iceland, Germany, France, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Belgium, Australia, and Austria.
  2. Educational qualification should have no gap and be within the last two years; or no gap in practice if the applicant is currently working.
  3. Submission of a valid “Good Standing Certificate” from the home country.
  4. Submission of proof of English language proficiency (required if licensed from a non-English-speaking country or if education was not in English): TOEFL with a score not less than 500; IELTS with a band not less than 5; OET grade not less than C; or Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) with a score not less than 169.
  5. Completion of primary source verification for all documents (qualification, experience, and license/registration).

Thus, according to revised regulations, nurses are no longer required to possess two years of work experience to practice in Dubai with exception to specialty nurses, nurse practitioners, and school nurses. They need to have additional varying educational requirements.

Dubai remains attractive to professionals due to its inclusivity for diverse cultural backgrounds and its prioritization of quality healthcare, providing a conducive environment for healthcare professionals.
