OET and coronavirus

OET AND CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

Let’s talk.

By now you know that the outbreak of the coronavirus has affected the lives of almost everyone across the globe. This is a time of uncertainty for many people as countries around the world put up travel restrictions and urge social distancing.

Unfortunately, many OET candidates have also been affected by this unexpected turn of events. If you are one of them, you may have some questions on your mind. We do not claim to have all the answers, but here are some pieces of advice we have put together, which we hope will help you get an idea of where you are at in terms of your OET test.

Has my OET test been cancelled?

According to the official OET webpage, all OET tests in the month of April 2020 have been suspended. This has been done for the safety of all involved. For all other test dates, updates will be provided by OET from time to time.

What happens to my registration (and payment) for the OET test then?

Your test will be deferred to a later OET test date. You should receive an email from OET regarding this. According to OET, the deferment fee will not be applicable in this situation.

So when is the next OET test date for me?

This will depend on OET. You should get an email from OET regarding this. Make sure to check your email regularly.

How come I have not received any email communication from OET regarding this?

You need to check if you have keyed in your email address correctly in your myOET profile when you registered. If your email address is wrong there, then it is likely that your email has gone to a wrong address.

When will testing return to normal?

Unfortunately, no one can say for sure at the moment because it will depend on the rules imposed by the different countries during this pandemic. However, we have been given assurance by OET that they are exploring safe and secure ways to carry on with testing during the pandemic. Keep checking the OET official page for updates.

Should I give up on the OET test and take another test?

Absolutely not. Most major tests are also affected by the coronavirus pandemic and have also suspended their tests. Everyone is in the same boat. Since you have started preparations for OET and are already familiar with the format of the test, we strongly advise you not to give up. Hang in there! Let’s all hope that we can find a solution for this temporary setback.

What if I have taken the test earlier? Will my results be delayed as well?

No. Test results (for tests that have already taken place) will be published as usual, according to the schedule.

Should I forget about my registration dream (to register with a specific medical board)?

Again, absolutely not! If this coronavirus outbreak has taught us anything, it is that we need more medical professionals in the world. You are one of them! You just need to prepare well for OET and then you will be one step closer to your registration dream. Don’t give up! The world needs you.

Should I just wait for things to get better then?

We totally understand that there is a lot of uncertainty now. However, try to stay positive. After all, the whole world is working towards overcoming this pandemic. Our advice is to make full use of this time to still prepare for the test so that once the OET test is available again, you will hit the ground running and be totally prepared. This will set you apart from those who only wait until the last minute to start preparing.
